The Plano Walking Club is a non-profit club dedicated to easy exercise and family fun. We are located in Plano, Texas which is in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Our club and our events are sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association (AVA) which is a member of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV).

What are Volkssports?

"Volkssports" is a German derived word which literally translated means "People's Sports", or in other words "Sports for all People". Volkssports are non-competitive sports events - walking, biking, swimming, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, skating etc. They are non-motorized outdoor sports. Volksmarching is the most popular type of volkssport event.

Sometimes combinations of different sports events are organized together. For example, a bike and swim event may be held during the same weekend as a walk and the times of the events are coordinated so that participants can take part in one or more.

What is a Volksmarch?

A volksmarch is a non-competitive walk. It is usually 6 miles (10K). It's not a pledge walk, it's not a race, it is a fun activity you do with a club, with your family, with your pet, or all by yourself.

What is a Year Round Event?

YRE Events are volksmarches that are self-service.  The sponsoring club has a "walk box" at a place of business. Please wait until the clerk has taken care their customers before asking for the box. Take the box to an out of the way location. Open the box, read the instruction sheet, complete the registration form, and sign the waiver. Take a start card and directions for the walk. Follow the directions on the map correctly and you should be back at the start in less than three hours. Please time your walk so as to finish before dark. Take a pencil with you and mark your start card with the answers to the checkpoint questions. Place your start cards in one of the envelopes provided. Leave the envelope in the marked folder in the box.

Group Walks

Our club does group walks of our YREs, other club's YREs, regular volksmarches, and charity events. This is not a required activity, but one you can do if you so desire.

Both Club walks 11km (7 miles) and 7km (4 miles) depart from Schimelpfenig Library parking lot at the corner of Country Place & Custer. The summer schedule, June, July and August, has the 11km group departing at 6:30am and 7km group departing at 7:30am. The two groups join up along the way, complete the walk, and go out for a hearty breakfast.

The club goes back to the fall/winter walk times of 7am and 8am during the months of September through May.
