Brush Country Museum

Cotulla
(LaSalle County)

Cotulla is the county seat and the courthouse is undergoing restoration right now. This is ranching country and you can visit Ben's Western Wear for ranching duds. You may also want to view the retired hats from the heads of well-known persons. The Brush Country Museum is a former schoolhouse where Lydon Baines Johnson once taught. Walkbox is behind trash can on front porch (see above).

Crystal City
(Zavala County)

Crystal City is the county seat. This is a 12K event which goes past a WWII family internment camp. This is farm country known for its melons and other truck farming. It is most noted for spinach and honors Popeye with two statues. We'd like you to take your picture with Popeye and post them on our Facebook page.

Carrizo Springs
(Dimmit County)

Carrizo Springs is the county seat. Once a cattle and sheep ranching area, it is known today for its artesian wells. It is now an oil production area.

Copper Breaks State Park
Quanah, Tx (Hardeman County)
May 1 - Dec 31, 20122

Located just north of the Pease River in north central Texas close to the Red River, Copper Breaks expands into the legendary wide-open spaces of Texas. The arid land has been eroded by the Pease River into a place of gullies, mesas and juniper breaks filled with wildlife. This area was home to Quanah Parker, son of Cynthia Ann Parker (who was kidnapped in 1836 at the age of 9) and Comanche Chief Peta Nocona. The 5K goes to the scenic overlook and back, then does the Bull Canyon Loop, then to the nearest campground (restroom) and returns to the Bull Canyon start point. The 10K goes to the scenic overlook and back, then does Bull Canyon. It then heads thru the outback on Chris's Link and another trail emerging at the windmill and a second campground. It then follows park road going thru this campground (restroom) and then back past the other campground to the Bull Canyon start point.
